Description: Would you like to be positioned to make a significant contribution to a Maritime-wide conservation effort and learn about Maritime butterfly species at the same time? Then join John Klymko, zoologist at the Conservation Data Centre in Sackville New Brunswick, and Jim Edsall, independent naturalist, for a workshop on the Maritimes Butterfly Atlas (MBA). Launched this spring, the MBA is a five-year systematic survey of all Maritime butterfly species powered by volunteer naturalists like you. The Atlas will greatly improve our understanding of the distribution and status of all butterfly species occurring in the region, including those of conservation concern. At the workshop you’ll be introduced to the great variety of butterflies that occur in the region, and receive specific instruction on how to participate in the project. You’ll be taught how to prepare voucher specimens and document butterfly occurrence through photography. All participants will receive an Atlas kit including a butterfly net and a participants’ manual. The workshop is open to anyone interested in participating in the Atlas.
